Ashburn Soccer Club F.A.Q

Q: Why Choose ASC?
A: ASC is an organization made up of energetic people who dedicate themselves to making your child's experience learning and rewarding. We are made up of players, parents, coaches, volunteers, club officials - all coming together with one goal in mind: creating an atmosphere where our area's youth are afforded the resources and tools to develop both as players and individuals. If this is what you are looking for in a program, then we welcome you! If you're happy with your family's experience with other soccer programs, then we hope you keep us in mind if things don't ever measure up to the standards you've set for your children's development.

Q: How is ASC Organized?
A: Our organization has an Executive Board and an Operations Board. These boards consist of enthusiastic and committed people who are all very much involved in the direction and oversight of the club. We have built this organization to be sensitive to the needs of our participating players, coaches and volunteers and we pride ourselves in being flexible and accommodating. If you would like more information on our club’s structure or would like to become involved in club operations, please contact us at info@ashburnsoccerclub.us.

About the Programs:

Recreational Programs
Q: How is ASC's program different than other programs?
A: At ASC, our number one priority is player development. Dollar for dollar, no other program invests the financial resources to see that our players are developed effectively and consistently. Our players will spend time developing as individual players and as part of a team unit under the guidance and training of a professional trainer on staff. Emphasis is placed on technical development (Phase 1) before games are introduced (Phase 2), culminating in an end-of-season soccer tournament (Phase 3).

Additionally, our teams will be comprised of players of comparable and compatible abilities and kept intact for a complete year (Fall & Spring) so that our players will consistently develop the skills, enthusiasm, and spirit of fair play and competition that will help them as they mature in the game of soccer.

Q: How are teams selected?
A: The younger age groups (up to U6) will be assigned by ASC coordinators taking in specific requests received by parents, coaches and administrators making every effort to accommodate requests received. Starting with the U7s, we are introducing a draft system that will incorporate player evaluations in team formation. Open evaluation dates will be set prior to the start of each season. Coaches will be instructed on the draft system and provided with a list of all players at the Coaches meeting. Our Director of Player Development and his staff of experienced trainers will be on hand to assist with evaluations. Teams will stay intact for an entire year (Fall and Spring); backfilling players not returning with new players entering our programs. At the end of each year, player evaluations will be performed and used as the basis for future team formation.

Q: How long is the season?
A: Our programs run for 6 to 9 weeks depending on the age group. The Fall season begins in September and ends in early November, while the Spring season runs from early April through early June. Our programs focus more on development at the beginning of the season, introducing games in the second trimester and finishing with a season ending soccer celebration (tournament).

Select (Travel) Programs
Q: Is ASC able to send teams to the area's Select leagues (ODSL, NCSL and WAGS)?
A: We are very excited to provide additional Select (Travel) opportunities to our area's youth. We have received full accreditation with the National Capital Soccer League (NCSL), Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS) and the Old Dominion Soccer League (ODSL) that affords us the ability to field select teams across all age groups.

Summer/Winter Training Programs
Q: Does ASC offer off-season (Summer and Winter) programs?
A: Yes, ASC offers year-round developmental opportunities. Winter training begins in early January and runs for 6 to 8 weeks while our summer camps are week-long training sessions. All sessions will be conducted locally in Ashburn under the direction of the Sampson Soccer Academy.

Q: Who is eligible for this program?
A: Anyone interested in improving his/her skills. The training program is targeted to players who want advanced skills development. Whether you are a Recreational, All-Star or Select player/team, we have a program for every need.

About Operations:

Q: What fields will be used?
A: ASC is proud toannounce the Field of Dreams initiative underway to build four state-of-the art soccer fields at Bles Park. The second field has been recently completed and will be used to support our Recreational and Select programs. We also have agreements in place with the local Homeowner Associations and the County of Loudoun’s Department of Parks and Recreation to assure that all of our programs are afforded facilities. The core fields targeted to run our programs include Cedar Ln ES, Eagle Ridge MS, Mill Run ES, Bles Park, Fincastle Field, Mills Rec Center, Wintergrove Field and Breezy Hill Park.

Q: Where will ASC find coaches?
A: This club was formed by coaches and we are excited to see the large number of volunteer coaches coming into and staying with our programs. At ASC, we strongly believe in empowering our coaches with the tools and resources to effectively train and develop our players. We recognize that coaching is more than just learning drills to teach players: it's also about knowing what makes young players perform.

Q: Are referees provided?
A: Yes. Our programs introduce volunteer referees for all age groups up to U8. Older age groups are provided certified referees (if a qualified volunteer referee is not available).

Q: Where do we obtain uniforms?
A: All recreational players will be provided uniforms. The Tiny Mites program will be provided with a training t-shirt while the older age groups are provided with a complete uniform (jersey, shorts and socks). Uniforms will be distributed to your coaches prior to the first game of the season.
